Other Family Assistance

From time to time, the 100 Club of Chicago offers additional support and opportunities to first responders and their families. Most recently, the organization secured funding to send children of fallen responders to Camp Manito-wish, a YMCA Leadership Summer Camp in the north woods of Boulder Junction, Wisconsin. During the two-week session, campers experienced a wide variety of programs in-camp and on the trail aimed at building friendships, developing leadership skills and just having fun. Thanks to various sponsors the 100 Club provides tickets to sporting and cultural events so that families can enjoy a care-free, enriching day or evening out. The 100 Club launched its biggest good-will initiative to-date just this summer with the first annual 100 Club Family Day. We invited families to Brookfield Zoo. While at the zoo families enjoyed a fun-filled day of exploring and honoring our fallen heroes and their families. Read below a message from a 100 Club Family and enjoy a few pictures from the event.

Dear 100 Club:

The Pye family wants to thank each of you, and many others, for a very special event today.

You did a great job honoring our fallen family members. The Chicago Emerald Society, the honor guard, the snorkel trucks at the entrance to the parking lot, the respect paid to the families of the lost, the luncheon, the special day at the zoo-we thank you so much for remembering our families!!!! All the volunteers did such a spectacular job, including the folks checking us in.

My father, Leland Pye, died on duty 4/6/85 in Hoffman Estates.

He never got to see his grandchildren. All three were there today. They were so impressed by the honor and respect and how well planned this event was. My 8-year old niece enjoyed the bean bag toss and blowing air bubbles. You did a great job making this special for the children.

The SVP from the Construction Co. that helped sponsor this event stopped by our lunch table and wished my mom well. He is a very kind and compassionate man. Please pass this on to him, and to the rest of your team.

When mom received the invitation for this event some time ago, my sons said, “wow, a free day at the zoo.” I reminded them that this had a huge cost!

Thanks again for remembering………
