On Thursday, December 29, 2011, Officer Lewis was fatally wounded during a robbery at a convenience store in the 1200 block of North Austin. During the course of the robbery, Officer Lewis acted in his official capacity as a Chicago Police Department Officer and was shot and killed by one of the offenders.

Officer Lewis, 41, an eight-year veteran of the CPD, was assigned to the 15th District and received over 81 commendations during his career.

Officer Lewis is survived by his 11-year-old daughter, his mother, his fiancée and extended family.

Funeral services for Officer Lewis will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at:

Public viewing will take place from 10:00am to 10:45am; St. Jude prayer service at 10:45am; and funeral services beginning at 11:00am.
