Class Description
The class will highlight effective Jiu-Jitsu techniques that First Responders can use to better respond to an uncooperative subject. The techniques learned will help increase self-confidence when having to deal with a resistive subject. Come prepared for a physical workout as this is a hands-on interactive course.
The event is free to attend, but spots are limited, so register soon! Donations will be accepted to benefit the 100 Club of Illinois first responder programming.
Class Coach: Rodrigo “Comprido” Mederios
Rodrigo “Comprido” Medeiros was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and grew up during the golden age of and in the capital of BJJ. Some of his neighbors and best friends would themselves grow up to be BJJ champions and legends. BJJ was growing exponentially during this time, and some of its greatest champions came from this area and era.
When he was about 9 years old, Comprido tried BJJ for a couple of months but ended up training in Tae Kwon Do and kickboxing for several years instead. It wasn’t until he was 16 that he got back to the mats. Within two months Comprido decided to quit everything else and focus on BJJ.
By 1999, Comprido made his way to earning a blackbelt, won many awards in his years of competition, and began to instruct BJJ classes. In 2006 Comprido had the opportunity to come to the U.S. and partner at an academy in Illinois. From this base, he began to train several UFC fighters including Mike Russo and Brock Lesnar. It was Brock Lesnar who convinced Comprido that he should open his own academy, and with Brock’s help, Comprido opened the doors of Comprido BJJ Academy in Bloomingdale, Il., in 2011.
Comprido now runs two Academies and also keeps a hectic travel schedule, giving seminars to Brasa team students and academies around the world.
